Steve Snyder is a self taught artist. As such, his style that emerged was not influenced by others, but is his own unique expression. His first dozen works from 1993-1995 were much less refined than his current style, consisting of cast stone over welded pipe frames. In 1996 he went through a period of personal conflict and stopped sculpting. In 2007 he completed “Struggle” his first work in over a decade. This piece is the cornerstone of his current works. It summarizes how he views life, the things of this world in one hand and the higher things of God in the other.
Steve began showing his work again in the fall of 2009. His anonymous figures have a distinctive style of being elongated and exaggerated. As his style develops there is flux between medium and appearance. He makes use of steel as a medium to express some of the darker or “harder” emotions and texture on the bronze for the same effect. His other works make use of shape and long flowing lines that give them a poetic quality.
